The dynabook
I just finished writing an article on tablet use in education. Last night I found these two Thai kids huddled outside a convenience store enjoying the free wifi on their tablet. Contrast that to the sketch that Alan Kay drew in the late 1960s to talk about an educational computer for kids.
At lunch today, I picked up Fred Vogelstein’s book that talks about the origins of iPhone/Android and Apple-Google rivalry. I enjoy my Android vs iOS fights just as much as the next guy but I feel that people at both these companies (and countless others) deserve our appreciation for turning a research paper in California to a real product that is in the hands of Asian kids.
