Sorry sir, no alcohol

Tomorrow is the election day here in Thailand, so there is a ban on selling alcohol this evening. The nightspots have gone quiet.

Thaksin is confident of winning another term. The election commission is sending out text messages urging people to vote. The opposition knows that don’t stand a chance but they are asking for votes just to keep Thaksin’s party the Thai Rak Thai (Thais Love Thais) in check. Rampant vote buying is supposed to be happening. Cameraphones are banned to prevent people from taking pictures of their vote and later using it as proof to earn some cash.

As for me, no Singha tonight, I have to make do with this tall glass of longan juice.
