A terrible country, a novel about Russia
I am back from Russia. The best way to solve the strong pangs of missing Russia is by reading a book on Russia. I often recommend that my learners read fiction from the country they are planning to travel to. A good novel set in a particular place would give you far more insights into how people live compared to a guidebook. Keith Gessen’s book is set in Moscow about a decade back but still gives a nice peek into the family life, the community and the government in Russia.

Also, check out a link I posted in June to an article where the author talks about the people working on America’s Russia policy..
Here is an episode of a Russia themed podcast featuring the author.
